“There’s a great future in asterisks.”. That’s a good one. “There’s a great future in plastics.” I didn’t pick up on that until the footnote at the end. Unfortunately, I don’t hope the irony of that original line from the movie, foretelling the wide use of plastic and its harmful effects on the planet translates to our time and tRumpf’s harmful impact on the planet.

I didn't think of that, Michael. I started with the title, then recognized the similarity. That's as deep as I went!

I read one comment (or heard it?) that tRump should NOT have accepted the Peace prize, but she was really stupid to offer it to him, and of course, he'll tell everyone he deserved it because you know he's "ended 8 or 9 wars" he sez.

Reading today's NPR news website, people in Copenhagen demonstrated against the US wanting to invade Greenland and just TAKE IT! One man was quoted as saying he hasn't heard any evidence that us Americans are protesting the policies of DJT! Good grief! We get THEIR news, why can't they get ours? We are protesting every single day and every week and next week should be another one (a scheduled event for Jan. 20th)! A friend told me, too, that people he knows in Europe think that all Americans are OK with DJT. And as such, WE are the "shit-hole" country that DJT called other countries.

On the No Kings protests events all across the nation--7 million people--isn't that news worthy of international mention?

Asterisks indeed! Bring 'em on!

Catherine, I have had this fear as an American (I tell people “California” when asked from what country I’m from) when traveling internationally since November 2024. I too have read of some Europeans and Canadians that think all Americans are pro-tRumpf and all that we Americans have to do is hold mass worker strikes (not that effective when labor unions here have nowhere near the clout they have in Europe) or call a snap election (foreigners don’t understand our form of government verse their parliamentary system). Thankfully, trips I and others I know have made in the last fourteen months to Spain, Portugal, France, New Zealand, and Australia have not witnessed the “all Americans are OK with DJT.” I’ve been waiting for it, having experienced socialist Italy in the 1980’s when all Italians thought all Americans were Reagan lovers.

Thanks for your response that gives me some encouragement--yesterday's big protest in Copenhagen was certainly a welcome sight! Our president is INSANE! But our congressmen and women, for the most part, are turning a blind eye to his international transgressions. I am embarrassed to be an American and am ashamed of what our leaders are NOT doing to stop the worst president American has ever had! How bad do things have to get before they actually STAND UP TO HIM?

Our American press does NOT spread the truth, it is so superficial, and "social media" is just pure "fluff" from what little I've seen. I have participated in many demonstrations over the years (since Vietnam) and observed that there is little if any press coverage!

How do we change THAT! Only if there is violence, do they consider it to be newsworthy and isn't that saying something (sad) about our country?

"Only if there is violence..." Sadly, it takes violence and devastation to get attention. The goons are trying to stoke violence to justify a violent response, and then use the media coverage to "prove" their point.

One thing I firmly believe and am working on is the notion that we have to stop playing defense and reacting to things. I keep hearing, "fight fire with fire," but that's defensive too. We have to find a way, short of violence, that gets the media's attention and puts pmurT and his cabal on their heels.

Thanks, Catherine. I think what you've described is a manifestation of our compromised media, which normalizes pmurT's actions and downplays our opposistance. It's disappointing that we haven't broken through, but I think we're reaching a breaking point. He's getting more and more desperate. If the Supremes come through with a knockdown of his illegal tariffs, that may accelerate his demise. I'm not holding my breath, but I think we're one good decision away from stopping him. Of course, the Epstein files have faded into the background again...
