Yesterday, I awoke to find my inbox filled with Substack messages announcing new subscribers. I later learned that Robert Hubbell (Today’s Edition Newsletter) had cited my essay, “On the Ballot in 2024,” in his latest newsletter, and the community responded. I am humbled and honored by all who have subscribed to my site.
Most of my writing these days centers around politics, because it seems that much of our lives these days center around politics. I long for simpler times, when the news seemingly had more variety, and wasn’t always “breaking.” Every now and then, I’ll take a detour into something lighter or more personal.
I invite you to take a tour of my essays, and ask that you look at two in particular. The first is a serious letter to incoming high school seniors (https://open.substack.com/pub/bobmorgan/p/junior-senior-to-a-junior-becoming), and the second is a pair of possible debate opening statements for the two likely presidential nominees (https://open.substack.com/pub/bobmorgan/p/trump-and-biden-campaign-messages). The latter features a message I’d expect from one candidate, and one I’d like to hear from the other. If you think either of the essays are worthy, please share them. I’d like to get them into the hands of someone who can put them to good use.
I hope you find my writing to be Goldilocks-ish: not to much, not too little; not too hot, not too cold; not too serious, not too flippant. If I provoke some thought, or elicit a smile or two, I’ll be amply rewarded. I look forward to seeing you in the comments sections! Thanks!
Bob Morgan
Keep up the good work, Bob!
